Solar installations have a frustrating gap: the sale is signed, the site survey is done, and then the project waits on permits and utility approvals for weeks. The client can see nothing happening. Silence during that wait breeds anxiety, and anxiety breeds cancellations.
The usual handling is a project coordinator who calls or emails when they remember, usually after the client has already called to ask. Each check-in takes ten minutes of digging through the utility's portal, and it happens for every project on the board.
Map the real milestones: permit submitted, permit approved, utility interconnection filed, installation scheduled. Each milestone triggers a short message explaining what it means in plain language. The client gets a steady heartbeat of progress without anyone writing an email.
Plain language matters. "Interconnection application approved" means nothing to a homeowner. "Your utility gave the green light. Installation is next" does. Write each message for the client, not for the industry.
Permits get delayed. When they do, say so before the client asks. A short note explaining the holdup and the expected new timeline keeps trust intact. Clients forgive slow cities. They do not forgive being kept in the dark.
If permit delays are generating anxious calls, a Free Workflow Review will show how status updates could run from the project data you already track.
